I was thinking it might be useful for vbforums to have a github account.
Right now all the members code is buried in various threads but probably(?) on the server disk as
standalone attachments. Would be cool if there was central repo with everything for people to browse.
Maybe dump by username with an auto link to the forum post in an auto generated readme?
Also for people who have interesting projects already in git, you could easily just fork them to make
sure you have a snapshot copy archived for the community. In this scenario you also have a complete
copy of the projects commit history and internal notes over time. Stripping binaries from a git fork
is pretty simple too just delete the files and recommit, if someone really wants them they would have to
go back in time.
Plus more and more people will probably be using git in the future anyway and forking is so easy..
archiving vb6 stuff is important as less and less people use it, and more sites are in danger of not caring and
letting hosting or links expire.
